Sumario: The steam production processes are used in countless industrial applications; they use water as a raw material that can be captured in a myriad of ways and places. Is generally attributed to water the label of pure substance; However due to the natural cycle that meets the water in the atmosphere it is contaminated with many minerals. Calcium and magnesium are the main minerals that cause water pollution; this pollution is known as hardness. Water hardness that is causing steam generation systems, heat exchangers, water pumping systems including plugging damaged parts and because of calcifications that are embedded and plug pipes and internal parts of above systems. In order to preserve and extend the life of existing thermal equipment in the laboratory of thermodynamics from a Salesian University, is proposed as solution design and construction of a water softener ion type, sized to supply a boiler 6 BHP and other existing equipment. The design ranges from the study of the properties of water, definition of basic concepts, and analysis hardness water supply to the selection of ionic softener, pieces of operation, and principles of design, material selection, construction and commissioning equipment testing.
