Sumario: This study is circumscribed by the field of applied linguistics and its aim is to determine the effects of learning strategies on the participants’ lexical competence. For this, a quasi-experimental study with pre and post test and the implementation of 6 learning strategies as treatment were designed. Measurements were performed using the Vocabulary Levels Test and the Lexical Frequency Profile. Results showed that the treatment did have a positive effect on the experimental group in all the tests in relation to the control group, being receptive knowledge the one that showed more progress.
