This research was developed as a part of the macro-project "Colombian Illustrious Masters of the 20th Century" developed by Universidad de La Salle. From this macro-project emerged the specific interest in studying and reconstructing contributions to education in Colombia of the teacher Jaime Rafael Carrasquilla Negret. In addition, to discover how the "critical incidents" of his life trajectory led him to set up an alternative training.
The project was framed within the qualitative research approach. Besides, pertaining to such an approach was used the narrative biographical method. As a consequence, the data collection instruments used for the development of the research were documentary analysis and in-depth interviews. Through the first instrument, it was evident that there is little material written by him and also about his work. However, he was recognized in the educational field for his legacy of more than 35 years of history: the School - Pedagogical Unit. In turn, through in-depth interviews some evidences were obtained about Jaime Rafael Carrasquilla Negret life story through the voices of some informants. In this way, in addition to investigate the contributions of the teacher to education, some human aspects were recognized, the ones that highlighted the critical incidents that could shape his thinking.
