Water Footprint is an important indicator throughout the management of water resources worldwide, because through this it can calculate the water used in production processes, to generate a product.
This project was developed with the main objective to evaluate the water footprint in the demand production of the Hydrangea in a crop located in the municipality of Facatativa - Cundinamarca. the floriculture sector was selected because it is a sector of great importance in the country's economy due to its high level of exports percentages.
The development of this research was conducted using the methodology established in the manual published in 2011 by Arjen Y. Hoekstra, Ashok K. Chapagain, Maite M. Aldaya and Mesfin Mekonnen M. titled "the water footprint assessment manual Setting the Global Standard "by the Water Footprint Network, where the procedure sets to calculate each component of the total water footprint (blue, green, and gray), either of a production process of goods and services or a nation. Also a database of the weather station Venecia, located in the municipality of Facatativa –Cundinamarca was used for the supply of data as handled: temperature, relative humidity, rainfall, daily sunshine, and wind speed; In addition to this it was necessary to collect data of the studied crop Hydrangea information which was given by the company The Elite Flowers S.A.S by engineers and agronomists in charge of the production process of that species, who provided specific data on the crop by which total water footprint was calculated.
CROPWAT 8.0 software was used to calculate the water requirement in the crop of Hydrangea based on evapotranspiration and weather conditions of the studied crop.
Finely, the value of the total water footprint was calculated, resulting in 5.37 liters of water in witch is required to produce a flower of this species, considering that the sum of the three components to achieve this result it was necessary (green water footprint : 1.60 L / stem, blue water footprint: 2.78 L / stem and gray water footprint: 0.99 L / stem). |
