The present work describes the reality of the sociolinguistic situation within the La Chimba community. It is evident that the Kichwa is a contact language that cohabits in a situation of diglossia within the community. The Ecuadorian society is diglossic. Spanish has been overestimated and indigenous languages have been marginalized.
This, added to the factors of economic and political marginalization of the communities, has led to the loss of the Kichwa in several sectors of the country where it was spoken. In this context, a study was planned on the degree of vitality of the Kichwa in the La Chimba community. For that, mechanisms for data collection were designed: surveys, field observation and interviews. The case study methodology was used.
It was important to investigate the perception that the comunity has regarding the linguistic system, racial prejudice and contempt for their ways of life, the Kichwa language occupies very limited areas to expand. This work aims to study the factors of vitality considering the situation of the speaking community. |
