This work is part of a larger research called “Cognitive development, quality
of life and subjective perception of aging ". In this context, the objective of this work
is to study the configuration of social networks and the perception of social support,
from these networks, of older adults in the San Vicente group of the Yaruquí parish,
between February and August 2016.
It is a quantitative and descriptive research, using as instruments to obtain data:
the Scale of Social Support Networks for Older Adults (ERASAM), and the social
support questionnaire of the Medical Outcomes Study (MOS); Instruments that
facilitated the description of the networks configuration: size, density, types of support,
degree of satisfaction and perceived social support. The studied group consisted of 30
older adults, men and women, over 60 years old, members of the San Vicente
neighborhood group, who voluntarily consented to participate.
The results obtained highlight that the informal family network is the main
source of material, instrumental and informative support, while emotional support is
more often frequently provided from the extra familiar network and informal
institutional network. Likewise, there is greater satisfaction with the informal extra
family network followed by the informal family network and, finally, the formal
institutional network |
