Ecuador is one of the most abundant countries in plant species with pharmacological
properties, the species Capsicum cf. Pubescens Ruiz & Pav and Renealmia sp, have been
taken into account for the present study in order to correct the ethnobotanical knowledge
regarding alexite activity against the bite of Botrops atrox one of the poisonous and
abundant species in Ecuador, responsible for a high percentage of ophidian accidents in
the Amazon Region.
In the present study, the inhibitory or neutralizing capacity of the heptanic, aqueous and
alcoholic extracts of C. pubescens and Renealmia sp. on the poison of Bothrops atrox was
investigated by qualitative and quantitative assays.
As a result, the alcoholic extract presented greater inhibitory capacity with a 1:20 rank
(venom/extract) without significant difference between species, using as reference a
Minimum Inhibitory Hemolytic Dose in a range of 60-15 ug / mL. |
