Sumario: This research evaluated the anti-hemolytic activity of plant species Mucuna cf. elliptica (Ruiz & Pav.) DC., and Tabernaemontana sananho Ruiz & Pav. that are identified by the inhabitants of the community Wawaim as plants that help to combat the snakebites of the species Bothrops atrox, an ophidian that lives in the Amazon region and is Responsible for causing most of the accidents. Total extracts were prepared with solvents of increasing polarity (heptane, ethanol, and water), and in each case their inhibitory capacity for the hemolytic effect produced by B. atrox venom on a blood agar-phosphatidylcholine plate was evaluated in vitro, establishing a minimum hemolytic dose (MIDH) of 15 μg capable of generating a hemolysis halo of 15.53 mm, which was reduced with doses of 9.4 μg of alcoholic extract in a proportion 1:7 MIDH-Extract.
