Bites by poisonous snakes as Bothrops atrox are very common in Ecuador, especially in rural areas of the Amazon where the victims are treated, in the first instance, with plants that relieve pain according to the natives. This research evaluated the ability of extracts of Lonchocarpus utilis and Mucuna elliptica to inhibit the harmful effects of the venom of the snake pitalala on human blood.
Plant samples were collected in the cantons Morona and Huamboya in Morona Santiago province; from these, alcoholic extracts and heptanics that assayed in vitro testing of anticoagulation, antiproteolytic, antihemolytic were obtained. Furthermore by vertical electrophoresis in denaturing conditions (SDS-PAGE) polyacrylamide gel was observed change in the protein from the venom profile to be treated with vegetable extracts. Also determined the concentrations of phenolics and flavonoids by UV-VIS spectrophotometry. The results showed that the alcoholic extract of L. utilis was the most effective in increase the clotting time (> 60 seconds) and introduced greater capacity antiproteolitic; as regards the hemolytic effect only the alcoholic extract of leaves of L. utilis presented such capacity since released hemoglobin was only 19.60 %. In the protein profile as many bands appeared in L. utilis root extract which indicates that the effect of the poison is mitigated because of the components of the plant extracts. |
